It is very difficult to determine if a future draft pick is going to be a star or a bust. This is why it is very risky to trade for a top pick in the NFL draft. While the top picks are supposed to be the best players entering the league, it is not guaranteed that they will be able perform at a high level in the NFL.

Trading for a top pick in the NFL draft is so risky because of the quality and quantity of draft picks and players you will have to give up to obtain the top pick.Additional information can be found at http://www.redskins101.com/2013/03/08/washington-redskins-close-to-signing-veteran-tackle-tony-pashos/. The Washington Redskins had to trade three first round draft picks and a second round draft pick in order to move up four spots in the 2012 draft to take Robert Griffin III.

The Redskins were gambling the future of their team in order to get one player. If Griffin turned into a bust, then the Redskins were going to have a hard time winning football games in the next few seasons. Griffin ultimately turned out to be the best player taken in the 2012 draft, and the Redskins are poised to be contenders for his entire career. Trading for a top pick is always going to be very risky, but getting the right player can turn your team into Super Bowl favorites.

There was a time where you couldn’t go far without hearing the name “Tim Tebow.”

The guy had an image, a character, a media personality – he even had a funny little thing called “The Tebow” that people, to this day, continue to imitate. If you did your research or got your sports channels through providers like cabletelevision.net/time-warner/ or similar, well, you knew he was everywhere.

Then, just like that, he was gone. Yesterday’s news. A punch line in an ever-expanding and hostile sports world where excellence was constantly demanded.

So what went wrong?

How does someone so big fall so far?

Many sports analysts cite the old adage of too much too soon. He showed tremendous promise in the early phases of his career which made him absolutely irresistible to drafters and scouts all over the NFL. The problem was that before anyone had a chance to really gauge his weaknesses, he was already so deep into contracts and deals that there was nothing anyone could do about it.

He became a darling of the NFL world and the pressure coupled with his comparable lack of experience led to his ultimate failure. He wasn’t ready and his greatness diminished as more responsibility was heaped upon him.

If you are uncertain about the NFL Draft, there are some key elements which will make it easier for you to understand. The basic purpose involves players leaving their college teams. Since they are no longer playing for their college they go to the draft in hopes of being selected for an NFL team. The NFL teams having the poorest records from the previous season have first choice at selecting the top players.

Another important element is that NFL teams can trade with other teams in order to receive higher picks. This can generally happen at any time including the period while the draft is taking place. The NFL teams spend a great deal of time preparing for the draft. The draft, after all, can be the key to a winning or losing season so it is vital to choose the best picks.

Since the draft choices have been playing football throughout their life, the draft is not only the key to their future, but, if selected in the early round, this is a great honor. The other important fact about the draft is that it basically serves as an ‘equalizer.’ This allows the weakest teams to choose some of the strongest players.Still bored?

The 2012 NFL Draft was headlined by several top offensive players. However, the strength of the 2013 NFL Draft looks like it will be the defensive players. There are five NFL defensive prospects that will be drafted high and will have an immediate impact in the league.

The top two defensive players in the NFL draft are defensive ends Barkevious Mingo and Sam Montgomery, both of whom play for the LSU Tigers. Both players are considered among the best pass rushers in the country and will likely be taken in the top five picks of the draft. This helps explain it more.

Jarvis Jones, who is a linebacker for the Georgia Bulldogs is also expected to go high in the draft. Jones, who will play either defensive end or linebacker, is very strong and is one of the best tacklers in college football.

The top defensive back in the draft is considered to be David Amerson, who plays for North Carolina State. Amerson is extremely fast and a great at covering top receivers. He could be drafted in the top five.

The best safety in the draft is Eric Reid, who also plays for LSU. Reid is a hard hitting strong safety and could be taken in the top ten.

While the 2012 NFL Draft has just been completed, it is never too early to start looking at the 2013 NFL Draft. There are five offensive college players that should be drafted very early in the 2013 Draft.

The top offensive prospect for next year is Matt Barkley, the quarterback for USC. Barkley has shown that he has a very strong arm, is mobile in the pocket, and is a pure leader and winner. With a good college season, Barkley should solidify himself as the number one pick.

The next top prospect is wide receiver Robert Woods, who is Barkley’s favorite target at USC. I found some more information here. Woods is considered the top receiver in the draft and should go very high.

Next to Barkley, the next highest rated quarterback is Tyler Woods from Arkansas. Woods has great accuracy and a very strong arm and should be a top-10 pick

Wide receiver Keenan Allen from California is one of the fastest players in college football and is considered a top prospect. He should be drafted in the first round.

The top running back in the 2013 draft will be Marcus Lattimore of South Carolina. He should be a finalist for the Heisman Trophy and could sneak into the top-10 of the NFL draft.

NFL teams spend a fortune locating, scouting and researching prospects, but as evidence of how inexact this “science” is, look no further than Tom Brady and Wes Welker. Brady lasted to the 6th round (pick 199) in the 2000 NFL Draft, while Welker went undrafted in 2004. Both are now perennial All-Pros, and headed to the Hall of Fame.

Several “steals” are expected to emerge from the 2012 Draft, perhaps none more so than LB Luke Kuechly of Boston College. Even though Kuechly was the ninth overall selection by Carolina, he has the look of a young Brian Urlacher and was surprisingly under-rated by scouts. Another overlooked player may be RB Lamar Miller of Miami, who lasted until the 3rd round before his hometown Dolphins selected him. DE Jared Crick of Nebraska suffered a torn pectoral muscle last season, causing him to last to the 4th round, where Houston chose him. With Mario Williams gone to free agency, Crick is in the perfect position.

Two other “under-the-radar” selections are QB Ryan Lindley (San Diego State) and WR Alshon Jeffery (South Carolina). Lindley, drafted in the 6th round by Arizona, is a protypical NFL QB; big, athletic and competitive. Jeffery, arguably one of the most physically skilled wideouts in the draft, lasted until the 45th overall pick to Chicago. Questions about Jeffery’s desire and commitment pushed his draft status down, but he could be exactly what Jay Cutler needs in Chi-town.

The recent emphasis on passing was evident in the 2012 NFL Draft with the first two selections being QBs. Stanford’s Andrew Luck was the first pick, going to Indianapolis as the replacement for record-setting Peyton Manning, who signed with Denver. Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III was selected next by Washington, who hope Griffin’s multi-threat capabilities will solve their long-time QB woes.

Other first-round draftees who are expected to have immediate impact for their teams include RB Trent Richardson from Alabama (Cleveland), OT Matt Kalil of USC (Minnesota), CB Morris Claiborne of LSU (Dallas), LB Luke Kuechly of Boston College (Carolina), DT Michael Brockers from LSU (St.I found some more information here. Louis), and WR Kendall Wright, Griffin’s teammate at Baylor (Tennessee).

BCS National champion Alabama had the most players selected with eight, including four first-rounders. Underclassmen were also predominant, with the first six selections entering the draft with college eligibility remaining.

There were some surprises among players who weren’t drafted, including record-setting QBs Case Keenum of Houston and Kellen Moore of Boise State. Other notable “non-draftees” were LB Vontaze Burfict (Arizona State), RB Chris Polk (Washington), CB Chase Minnifield (Virginia), and WR Jeff Fuller (Texas A&M).

The draft’s final selection, nicknamed “Mr. Irrelevant,” was QB Chandler Harnish of Northern Illinois, who was selected 253rd by Indianapolis.
